New Little Sisfur

Hi Kitties!  My Mommy says this is just a quick post for today.  Part of my house has been closed off for some reason.  A fellow cat blogger Mommy stopped by today.  This is what she brought.

The Story

Hi Kitties!  Sorry my Mommy hasn't updated, she says things were so crazy before I even took a walkabout.  I won't tell my Mommy what happened during the time I was gone, but she wants to tell you from her side since she knows all you Kitties and your Beans want to know what happened.  Take it away Mommy...

Thanks Lily.  Let me start by letting you know how much Lily would go outside.  When it's warm she sometimes would go out on weekdays as early as 7 am and come back sporadically until dark when we would lock her in.  As it got colder her outside time was less and less, and was always when it was light outside.  Right before she disappeared she barely showed any interest in going out, and we were thinking about starting to make her an inside cat.

So on Saturday December 1st in the afternoon Lily, her Daddy, and I were in our TV room relaxing.    Lily decided around 3 pm that she really wanted out, so I let her out opening her cat flap for her.  I started to get ready for a wedding reception that her Daddy and I were going to that evening.  At 5 pm we had to leave, so I put food in Lily's dish and we left for the reception.

At 8:30 pm that night we came home expecting Lily to be in the house.  I looked in her food dish and noticed she had been inside at some point to eat some food.  We searched all the house, but she was no where to be found.  We called for her outside, but didn't see her.  We weren't too worried at that point because it was a little warmer than normal, so we thought for sure she'd be back before bed time.

I starting to worry as 10 pm approached.  It was also starting to get really windy.  There were high wind warnings all that night, and raining for the next day.  I did not sleep at all that night.  I kept hearing the cat flap open and close, but it was the wind.  I was so worried as Lily had never been gone overnight, and the weather was so bad.

Sunday morning I posted her most recent picture on Facebook asking if anyone had seen her.  I have a lot of my closest neighbors friended there.  By that night I had so many neighbors looking for her with one false positive sighting.  I decided to post on her blog and the CB because I truly believe in the power of purrs, prayers, and positive (or maybe not so positive since I asked you guys to tell her to "get her butt home") thinking.  I also posted on our local free classified site (which is more used than craigslist) and craigslist.

Monday morning still nothing.  My neighbors checked on me to see how the search was going.  I called our local shelter.  I tried on Sunday, but they are closed weekends.  Oh I forgot to add that this whole time my husband and I took turns walking the neighborhood looking for her.  I started to make posters and fliers to hand out.  We actually spent almost $100 getting copies made to blanket our neighborhood with.  I just really felt I needed to focus on the area around us.

Tuesday morning I got a call.  A neighbor saw a cat in her yard, but wasn't sure if it was Lily.  I thought it was another false positive, but decided to check.  The neighbor said she tried to grab the cat, but it did not want to be held.  I walked down by the house, but saw no cat.  I called her name as I walked home.  Just as I got to the bottom of the steps to our home, I see Lily come running towards me.  I grab her as fast as I can and start crying and saying, "Where have you been?  We've missed you so much!"  I get her inside, close her cat flap, then get her some canned food out.  She was very thirsty, but not very hungry.  Her fur was gritty and dry, but otherwise she looked fine.  She spent about 10 minutes running around the house and up and down her cat tree.  Then as it started to rain outside, she settled down and slept on my lap for 5 hours.

Sorry this is so long.  I just knew everyone would like to hear what happened.  I want to thank you guys again for all your purrs, prayers, and thoughts.  Lily is now an inside only cat,  much to her dismay.

Lily is lost...

Hi everyone, Lily's Mommy here, could I ask that everyone send their thoughts to Lily to get her butt home?  Sorry I haven't blogged or visited for awhile.  I have kept up with your blogs, just haven't been commenting.  Thanks.

What My Parents Have Been Up To and an Award!

Kitties, I am so sorry I haven't been able to blog!  Especially since Nerissa of Nerissa's Life so kindly gave me an award!

Firstly my parents have been busy working on our home and lawn.  You see they bought their first home almost a year ago and it's a fixer upper.  It had been empty for over a year and not very well taken care of.  So first they had to care for the lawn and plants, which are all doing quite well now that they've had more TLC.  Also the house needed to be painted before this winter comes.

Here I am supervising the painting from inside.

So now that they're done hopefully my secretary Mommy can spend more time on the important stuff, like blogging and catching up with my friends!

Now onto my award... The Versatile Blogger Award

Isn't it pretty?  Thanks so much Nerissa!

So I understand I have to share seven random thoughts about myself.

1.  I now like kids!  My Mommy has no idea what happened, but I will now run up to kids outside and    ask for attention.  I used to run at a mere hint that a kid could be trying to touch me.

2.  I love exploring behind doors that are closed most of the time.  This includes closets, cupboards, and the fridge.  I don't get in the dishwasher or washer/dryer though.

3.  I once jumped in the shower with my Mommy.  This kind of goes with number two, but I'll never, ever, ever do that again!

4.  I have an fifteen year old Aunt kitty named Izzy that I lived with for awhile after my Mommy and Daddy gotcha-ed me.  We didn't get along very well though.

5.  My parents never really use my last name.  My Mommy decided to use it for my blog because she thought it is a pretty name for a pretty lady cat like myself.

6.  I have taken over my Mommy's pillow at night to sleep.  She added an extra pillow to the bed in case there's no room for her while I'm sleeping.

7.  I almost went home with my Grandma one time when she was visiting.  I had jumped into her car while she was loading up some of my parent's laundry when the washer broke.  She said she'd take me home with her, but I jumped out before she got in.

Here's me on my Mommy's pillow.

Sorry I've Been Away So Long!

Hi kitties, can you see me?   No hold on a sec!

Here I am!  Sorry I've been away so long!  My mommy said she just got overwhelmed with things happening around here that she needed to take a break from her blogging duties for me.  What have I been up to?  Let's see: hanging out in the 3 trees in my yard, being the mighty huntress that I am, snuggling with my parents, sleeping, eating and everything else I normally do.

My mommy was sad she missed being able to go to blogpaws even though it was so close.  She hopes all the pet parents enjoyed visiting Salt Lake City.

I wanted to share a picture from one of the many wildfires going on here in the west.  We've had one kind of close to us, but it was put out fairly quickly.  We sure wish it would rain and cool down!

This is from USA Today.  It's a lady here in Utah who found these kittens under a burned out truck in her neighborhood that had burned in a wildfire.  We don't know anymore about the story, but we sure are sad for all those who are affected by the wildfires.

Well I'm gonna get back to watching over my neighborhood from the tree.  Hope every kitty has a good day!

It's My Second Birthday!

Sorry my mommy hasn't posted or commented for me for awhile.  She says things have been really busy. I've made sure that I've gotten enough attention anyways.  Mommy promises to help me visit later and try to blog more often.

On to the most important thing: It's my second birthday today!  I've already gotten some fun toys from mommy and daddy.  Later I'll get treats, yay!

Mommy made a video of me spiffing up for my birthday.  Mommy says she likes the part where I clean my armpits.  She's weird like that.  Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy it!

Teaching My Humans to Hunt

So I decided today was the day to teach my humans how to hunt.  I have to say they weren't very good at it.  I brought a bird in the house and let it go.  I kept catching it and picking it up with my mouth to show them what to do.  What did my daddy do?  Open the door and let it back out.  I was shocked!  I went outside to catch it again, but it was no where to be found.  Since I felt sorry for them, I brought a dead vole back around dinnertime.  Maybe I misjudged their readiness.

Here's some picks of me literally bathing in the sun this afternoon:

Payback!

My mommy knew it was coming.  I may have looked cute and adorable earlier in the day...

(Me napping on mommy's lap)

but it was time for payback!  Take that mommy!!!

(This is my 4th dead vole I have brought into the house, 5th overall that my mommy knows of.  And I brought it into the house twice today.  Oh how my mommy squealed!)

Take that mommy!!!

I Had a Bath!!!

If it wasn't bad enough that my mommy has ignored my blogging and commenting duties for a week, I had a bath tonight!  It was horrible!  Now I'm sitting my favorite spot by the window plotting my revenge.

Note from Lily's mommy:  Sorry I've haven't been around, it's just been so busy around here.  I'm hoping it will calm down by the end of the week!  As to Lily's bath she went outside and got something stuck to her paw that required a bath to get off.  It was really quick and wasn't very much water, but of course it was terrible anyways.  Even though she plays with water in the sink, toilet and bathtub anyways...

Kiss Me It's My Gotcha Day!

One year ago today, I got my very own forever home and family!
My daddy made me this pic to celebrate it and St. Patrick's Day:

P.S. My mommy says sorry she hasn't visited for me this past week, she says it's been busy... pffft I say!  She promises to do more next week!  She had better or I may start attacking her ankles!!!

V-E-T

First of all I want to apologize for my mommy's mistake!  She accidentally e-mailed KC my wrong gotcha day!  It's next Saturday aka St Patricks day and I will have a special post that day.  Thanks for all the wishes anyways!

So today I had to go to the V-E-T today.  I cried a few times on the way.  My tail went bottlebrush when the V-E-T walked in.  She said I was being a halloween cat.  It was my annual checkup and I got 3 shots.  At least they didn't use the thermometer.  I weigh 10 pounds, but they say I have a fat pouch!  It's all fur I swear!

To make up for it my daddy bought me a new squeaky mouse toy, which I love!  And my grandparents got me a new feather wand which is the second BEST TOY EVER (after Da Bird)!

Here's a pic of where I woud have rather been today!

My First Award

First to answer about some of the comments on nicknames:

I did not drink all the juice, but I LOVE orange juice boxes!

Sammy is kind of silly for a girl, but my grandpa calls all animals, no matter their gender, Sammy.  Heaven knows why!  We love him anyways!

I sure know "No" and "Get down" very well, hehe!

I answer to Lily and Trouble, the others are just names the beans call me.

And now about my first award!

Lars and Odin, the two handsome pawsome guys from Bengal Business, gave me the Pawsome Blogger Award!  Thanks for giving it to me guys!

To pass on the award to 3 blogs I would like to give it to:

Leo, Star, and mom Andrea from Celestial Kitties

Junior, Orion, Sammy, and their Meowm of Junior, Orion and Sammy

All the fosters and permanent residents and their mom of Random Felines

A Serious Post

Lily's mommy here:  I'm gonna do a serious post today.  One thing I love about the cat blogosphere is the information we can share and help others out.  I have learned so much from you guys.  I hope no one is offended or upset at me for posting about this, but I just wanted to let everyone know about what happened when Lily was spayed.

So when Lily was brought into the call center she was skinny like most strays.  She was taken to someone's home, bathed, and taken to the vet for a checkup and her first shots.  She was taken back to the call center and her spay was scheduled.  She was about 9 months old by the vet's guess.

The lady who had taken responsibility for her dropped her off the next week for her spay.   She had given the vet her home number and planned on picking her up after work.  She had not thought about the vet needing to contact her while at work.  When the vet started the spay he discovered that Lily was pregnant.    He tried to call the lady, but could not contact her because she was at work.

Now from what I understand most vets usually will not spay under these circumstances, but this is the humane society vet.  He sees all the cats that go through the shelter.  Not knowing what to do, he went ahead and spayed her.

I do not know how far along she was.  It upset a lot of people at my husbands workplace.  They started calling the lady a "kitten killer."  I do no blame her one bit.  I am very sure that she would have said no if she knew.

When we started having Lily with us on weekends, we had to take her to the vet because she had a full mammary gland and we were worried it was blocked.  Of course we had to explain to our vet what had happened.  Our vet thanked us for not contributing to the pet overpopulation problem.  That made me a little upset, but I know she meant well.  Lily was fine and just needed time for the hormones and milk to get out of her system.

I'm not quite sure what the message I think people should get out of this.  Mainly please, please, please spay and neuter and adopt shelter pets.  I know I'm preaching to the choir so to speak.

Thanks for listening about my Lily.

Edited to add:  Just wanted to make sure everyone knows I don't blame the humane society vet.  I really don't blame anybody.  I just knew this was something I did not want to hide about how Lily's life started off.

Payback for Mommy!

My mommy has been bad at posting and commenting so this post is payback!  She hates having her picture taken, but let my daddy takes these cause I'm so cute!  Now everybody will see her picture even though she doesn't like it, hehehe!

I love to hang out with mommy holding me this way.  Sometimes I give her hugs too with a paw on each side of the neck.  Anybody else like to be held this way?

What I Like to Watch

Before I start my post my mommy wants to thank everyone for the birthday wishes!  She had a very good birthday.

Secondly I want to say a big "Thank you!" to Angel Admiral, Katie Isabella and their Mom Carole for introducing me to the cat blogosphere and The Ladies of Autumn.  I'm now an official member of TLOA and you can see my post here.

Now on to my post.  I know most kitties like watching bird or squirrel tv out the window.  I do too.  But I also LOVE watching bird videos on my mommy's computer.  She has a big iMac that she'll play Youtube bird videos for me.  You can see them too, my playlist is here.  I sit staring at the screen waiting for my videos to start.  Sometimes I play with the screen.  Sometimes I lay down and fall asleep.  (My mommy doesn't understand that one, but I'll never tell her why I do... MOL)

I usually don't watch TV, but my mommy sat and watched the puppy bowl and I found it very interesting.  I especially liked the pigs.  Mommy thought I would like the kitten half time.  I lost interest before they came on though.

Here I am watching the puppy bowl:

My Cat Loving Mommy

Even though my mommy has been bad about posting, I'm going to tell you a little about how much she loves kitties.  She has been a cat person for as long as she can remember.

Her birthday was on monday, and she always tells people to get her something with cats on it if they can't think of anything better.  Nobody did, but they did wrap them in wrapping paper with cats all over it and a card that meows happy birthday.

She usually keeps the gifts that are cat related.  One year though she got one of those cats made of rabbit's fur that looks like they are sleeping in a basket.  That creeped her out a little.  A niece asked if she could have it and she happily gave it to her.

My daddy gave my mommy a cat as his very first present to her.  (They went and picked her out together, so he didn't just bring her a cat home.  Until I came around that is.  MOL)

Here's how me and my mommy got to spend the morning on her birthday after daddy went to work.

She's says it's the best present she could get from me!

How I Found My Daddy

Now mommy gets to tell the story of how I was rescued.

My daddy works in Salt Lake City in an area where the "airport" hotels are.  Right behind his workplace is the back of one of these hotels.  At this time there was a call center in the same building.

Someone noticed me living behind the hotel, and decided they needed to bring me inside.  I ran around inside the call center, because I was afraid of people at first.  It is thought that I was probably lost or abandoned by someone at the hotel.  When I finally started to warm up to people I was taken home (not with my daddy), bathed, and taken to a vet to get my first shots and exam.  I was brought back to the call center and named Lily Le Mew by a nice lady who worked there.  I was going to be an office kitty.  It was not meant to be though.

At first I loved running around, getting love, stealing food, and being the company mascot.  Then came a big layoff.  The call center went from 24/7/365 to Monday to Friday 9 am -5 pm.  I got lonely.  My daddy was the first to arrive in the morning, and I was always waiting for him at the door.   He really worried about me and started taking me home on weekends so I wouldn't be lonely.  Even on weekends I would cry if I thought no one was around.  This made my daddy even sadder.

Luckily for me, a time came when the CEO found out about me and warned the manager that I had to go.    Daddy brought me home on St. Patricks day of 2011.  I love it because my mommy is home all day so I'm rarely alone.

Here's a picture of me at the call center after I was cleaned and checked by a vet:

(That's not my daddy's hand, he took the picture.)

I'm Such a Good Hunter!

My mommy was going to post about how I came to my home, but I had other ideas.  As of today (as far as my mommy knows) I have killed 3 voles and 1 bird.  I don't understand why she was so upset to find the newest one after she finished cleaning my litter box.  They are so fun to kick around, and their guts are so yummy!  The first two she found as soon as I brought them in.  They were promptly thrown back out, ruining my fun!  The bird is a whole different story.  The only thing my daddy found was a pile of feathers.

Here's a pic of the first vole before I killed it and the pile of feathers my daddy found:

Aren't I such a good hunter?

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

Hello everyone in the cat blogosphere!  My name is Lily Le Mew.  My mommy and I have been reading your blogs for quite some time, and I finally demanded she start one for me.  I hope you guys will enjoy my blog as much as I have enjoyed yours.

Let's see a few things about me to start off...

I am a 1 year old calico who came from living behind a hotel to living in my very own home with my mommy and daddy.  I think Da Bird is the BEST TOY EVER!  I love cheese, tuna, and crab, yummy!  I am not the loviest, but I will get in a lap at least once a day.  I love to watch birds.  If I don't get my way, I swat my mommy's ankles, but not my daddy's.  I think my daddy is the best!

I hope that is good for now.  I'll be posting much, much more about myself, so stay tuned!
